The Proposal
ZEROdB Live were tasked with creating the platform for a full sized basketball court, installed on Hackney Marshes as the centrepiece for Hackney Half Marathon’s fan village.
The raised platform size required was 31m x 18m, with sufficient gap for air flow underneath. Additionally plinths for the 1.5T basketball hoops were required.
The initial brief was delivered 14 days before activation.

The Outcome
Given the relatively short turn around time between brief and delivery, ZEROdB Live’s deployed two managers from the project management team focussed on design and delivery.
ZEROdB Live conducted extensive research into the game play involved in NBA style basketball matches, concluding that the imposed forces and dynamic loads were well within the working capacity of Prolyte Litedeck, the preferred staging system to build the platform.
The platform build was completed in 1 day with a team of 14, additional dressing and carpentry on day 2 with commissioning on day 3.

The short lead time meant there was no advance technical specification for the basketball hoops, the exact weight, weight distribution and design of which were only found out on site.
Daily checks were performed on the platform to check for any movement and to ensure safety and security of the platform during the day.
ZEROdB Live also supplied an on-site “babysitter” for the duration of the activation.
